GBS-Advanced Media (GBS-AM), a service area within Raytheon’s Global Services group, is the company’s in-house resource for creative and print services. Leveraging a broad range of capabilities—including graphic design, digital media, videography, photography, event production, and proposal support—our creative professionals are trusted advisors to advance Raytheon’s global growth and employee engagement through creative, impactful and cost-effective solutions that build the “Safer World” brand. In 2017, we responded to more than 13,000 requests, supporting customers in all of Raytheon’s businesses and functions, with particular focus on capture managers, program managers, and communicators, as well as the company’s senior leaders. Our deliverables have high visibility among the company’s 61,000 employees and in the external marketplace. GBS-AM is engaged in an initiative to enhance our own collaboration, innovation and efficiency. The initiative includes a restructuring of the organization, resulting in the standing up of a team to centrally delivery writing and proposal production services to internal customers. For several years, the talent delivering these services has been dispersed across several GBS-AM teams. Job Description Reporting to the GBS-AM vice president and serving as a member of the GBS-AM leadership team, this position will be a critical change agent for GBS-AM. The position will lead a team of 35-40 creative professionals responsible for writing and editing proposal executive summaries, online features, marketing deliverables and leadership communications, and for designing proposal graphics and producing proposal documents. The position will interact with customers on higher-visibility, complex projects, and it will serve as an escalation point for resolving customer issues. The position will also have a business development dimension to it, reaching out to potential customers to raise awareness of the team’s value and capabilities. The position will be a “working-leader,” with the expectation that the incumbent will personally engage in some customer projects. The position will require a strategic thinker who is strong at developing customer relationships, articulating the value proposition of our services, and advocating effectively for organizational change. Primary Responsibilities Interact with company senior leaders to understand their business objectives and priorities and identify how writers, editors and proposal graphic designers and desktop publishers can support those needs. Provide leadership, strategic direction and guidance to a team of writers, editors and proposal graphic designers and desktop publishers, with a focus on talent development and maintaining knowledge of writing and proposal best practices. Assign and oversee projects for team members related to writing and editing proposal executive summaries, online features, marketing deliverables and leadership communications, and to designing proposal graphics and producing proposal documents. Establish an approach for forecasting demand for the team’s services and staff the team with a balance of employees and contractors who can support that demand, including surge and specialized support on selected customer requests. Identify and recommend external suppliers to address capability or capacity gaps required to respond to customer requests. Partner with Raytheon’s proposal managers, program managers, communicators and other company leaders and managers to raise awareness of the team’s services. Participate in after-action reviews for top-tier customer projects. Identify, evaluate and implement innovative approaches for delivering the team’s services. Lead or engage in special projects as needed. Required Skills Minimum 12 years of experience. Extensive experience producing writing deliverables for a variety of channels in a business setting. Proven leadership skills, including managing a team. Experience in implementing change initiatives and process improvements. Strong analytical skills and ability to work with complex data and information. Strong knowledge of desktop publishing and graphic design technologies. Strong knowledge of proposal production and RFP/BAA analysis. Excellent project management skills. Consistent record of delivering results. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and plan contingencies. Strong written and verbal communication, including strong presentation skills. Proficiency with MS Office Suite programs and Adobe Acrobat. Ability to travel on some assignments. Ability to secure DoD clearance. Desired Skills Proven experience successfully driving change across the enterprise. Familiarity with Raytheon’s corporate identity guidelines and writing style guide. Demonstrated experience in managing geographically dispersed organizations. Familiarity with Six Sigma tools. Experience in the aerospace and defense industry.
