Our long-term client relationship with NASA has led to a need for a Systems Engineer II on the Mission and Program Integration (MAPI) contract at Johnson Space Center (Houston, TX).

MAPI provides program support related to strategic and tactical planning, engineering analysis, manifest development and hardware certification, safety and mission assurance, risk management, information technology, payload integration, program science and research. This includes support of mission and program integration and necessary infrastructure operations functions for the International Space Station (ISS). MAPI has the potential of supporting other NASA programs or projects via task orders.

The Systems Engineer II will:

  • Assist with the decomposition of requirements, generation and allocation of specifications, control documents, plans and reports in support of spacecraft development.

  • Support programs from the early phases of program capture through integration and test.

  • Perform system engineering activities including but not limited to requirements identification, verification and tracking, interface definition and Interface Control Document (ICD) development, working with design organizations and cross-functional teams, supporting Integration and Test.

  • Ensure the system level integration design meets program requirements.

  • Lead preparation and assist with conducting major technical reviews, including design and test/launch readiness reviews; may serve as a technical interface to customer or other stakeholder organizations.

  • Author technical and engineering memos and presentations as required.

  • Interpret customer requirements and decompose them into hardware and system requirements and specifications.

  • Originate specifications, control documents, verification and validation plans, procedures, reports, or other documentation in support of design and development activities.

  • Support system and subsystem checkout during the engineering phase by authoring test plans and procedures for verifying operation of system and subsystem components during integration and test.

  • Develop verification/validation methodologies.

  • Provide technical systems knowledge or expertise in design reviews.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • BS degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five (5) years of progressive relevant experience.

  • Possess knowledge of product technology and a good working knowledge of the associated engineering disciplines.

  • Previous experience with innovation or process improvements.

  • Working knowledge of systems engineering practices associated with the definition, design, development, implementation, testing, and integration of complex systems.

  • Experience with DOORS requirements management software.

  • Excellent communication skills (in both written and verbal), integration, coordination and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team and independently.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint).


  • INCOSE Certified System Engineering Professional (CSEP).

  • Wiki content management.

  • Project management or other leadership experience.

Essential Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.

  • Applicant selected may be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

  • Work may involve sitting for extended periods.

  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lb.

  • Must have sufficient mobility to enter areas of test facilities where necessary.

  • Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

  • Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, etc.)

  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.

  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
