Position Summary

The Developer's primary responsibility will be the back-end development and ongoing maintenance of oceaneering.com. This position requires thorough knowledge of building WordPress sites that use custom post types and custom design. The Developer must be advanced in PHP, HTML, CSS, Javascript, and GitHub.

The Developer will create well-written, testable, and efficient code via best practices in software development. This individual will be the sole developer on the Global Marketing and Communications (GMAC) team, and must be able to work with the designers, content writers, and the project manager to develop code, implement fixes, and create new features and enhancements for the company's website and web-based applications in a timely manner.

Duties & Responsibilities


  • Converting ideas and designs into technical specifications with novel implementations
  • Coding new WordPress themes and plugins from scratch and modifying existing themes and plugins
  • Maintaining and administering WordPress installations
  • Working with professionally layered Photoshop documents to create web optimized images
  • Creating responsive layouts in HTML5 and the Bootstrap CSS framework
  • Performing SEO optimizations and implementing website statistic tracking and analytics
  • Utilizing JavaScript frameworks to implement website functionality
  • Update job knowledge by researching new internet technologies and software products
  • Test sites and applications in different browsers and environments
  • Fix bugs in existing projects
  • Run performance benchmarking tests
  • Build robust, reusable code and libraries for future use / users
  • Project estimation/planning skills – specifically agile development practices and tools
  • A team player who is excited by unique challenges and ready to learn



  • Strong WordPress Development experience and a thorough understanding of WordPress APIs
  • Excellent CSS fundamentals, experience with CSS Frameworks
  • Excellent PHP fundamentals, experience with implementing new features and applications from scratch utilizing PHP Frameworks
  • Familiarity with SEO techniques and tools
  • Familiarity with Responsive Design techniques and tools
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or Computer Applications
  • 4+ years of experience in Web Development
  • 4+ years of experience developing with WordPress and PHP
  • 2+ years of experience with Bootstrap, HTML, and JavaScript (JQuery)
  • Experience implementing parallax design
  • Multi-platform experience (PCs, Tablets, Windows, Android, and iOS)
  • Multi-browser experience (Chrome, IE, Firefox, Safari)

  • Experience using the following applications: Microsoft SQL Server, XSLT, JSON, XML, Google Applications
