Flight Control Law Engineer

Flight Control Law Engineer opportunities are available at Bell Helicopter for the V-280 Future Vertical Lift Program. These positions may be located at Bell Helicopter’s headquarters facility in Ft. Worth, TX or the Bell Flight Research Center in Arlington, TX.

Position Responsibilities:

The Flight Control Law Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Development of air vehicle flight control laws (stability & control), flight director, navigation, guidance, and autonomous systems control algorithms

  • Conduct linear and non-linear analysis, modeling and simulation, and piloted evaluation of aircraft control and handling qualities

  • Design and test of Flight Control System (FCS) control law software in compliance with DO-178 standards

  • System and software design, requirements management, systems specifications, interface management, system safety assessment, verification and validation testing in desktop simulation environment and systems integration labs, aircraft flight test, and aircraft/system qualification and certification

  • Support development of systems architecture, redundancy management, and actuator design and integration


Education Requirements:

- Bachelor’s Degree is required. Major in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering is preferred. Bachelor’s Degree in Physics, Electrical, or other Engineering disciplines will be considered.

- Masters Degree in the Engineering disciplines mentioned above is preferred.

Position Requirements:

  • Experience at all levels will be considered, including entry-level with relevant research or project experience. At least 5 years experience is preferred.

  • Familiarity with model based systems engineering

  • Familiarity with ADS-33 and other handling qualities specifications

  • Experience with creation of system specifications, requirements traceability, and verification. Preferred experience with Enovia, DOORS, and Serena Dimensions

  • Experience with flight control system development and testing in a systems integration lab

  • Experience with aircraft testing

  • Candidates must be eligible to obtain Secret Security Clearance

  • Experience with Primary Development Environments:

  • MathWorks MATLAB / Simulink with Stateflow and Embedded Coder

  • C/C code

  • C# test scripts

  • IBM Rational DOORS

  • Serena Dimensions / PVCS

  • Git
