Develop mechanical and structural designs for space related hardware. Develop electronic packaging for extreme environment situations. With the aid of drafters, develop component and assembly drawings. Supervise and coordinate fabrication of hardware. Develop and supervise environmental screening tests, development tests, and experiments. Produce high quality engineering documentation including drawings, specifications, test plans, procedures, and reports. Perform structural and thermal analyses of flight hardware, and produce high quality reports fully documenting work performed. Mentor and participate in the development of junior technical staff. Support various design reviews throughout product life cycle, including defending design and analytical work to customer, third party and non-advocate reviewers. Support promotional and proposal activities as part of a team effort to develop new business opportunities. Field support may require travel to customer's facilities, NASA field centers, military bases, and overseas.
Requires a BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with at least a 3.0 GPA and a minimum of 7 years of experience as a mechanical engineer in a related field. An advanced degree is desirable. Previous experience with mechanical design and structural analysis is required; experience using computer aided design software, structural analysis software, and standard office productivity software is required; ability to productively interface with team members and clients is a must; working knowledge of CREO (PRO/Engineer), ANSYS, thermal analysis, GD&T;, environmental testing methodology, mechanism design, material selection and characterization, composite structural design and analysis, electromechanical design, and/or space mission concept design is a plus; previous experience presenting designs and analysis to review panel is a plus. Domestic and international travel required. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
