Rockwell Collins is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Principal Software Engineering position to support Very Low Frequency Transmitter and Receiver development. The candidate must have a solid background in digital signal processing mathematics and related programming techniques. Additionally, the candidate must understand the requirements of VLF Mode processing and be able to architect and partition VLF solutions across multiple processors for optimum performance.

This position is located in Richardson, Texas. A comprehensive relocation package is available to qualified candidates.

Some domestic travel will be required.


Candidate must have the following:

  • US Citizenship

  • Must possess or be eligible for obtaining a U.S. DoD Secret Clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/re-instatement and must meet eligibility requirements.

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline

  • Experience and knowledge in the design, development, integration, and test of low frequency or DSP based radio systems

  • Understanding of DSP signal processing mathematics

  • Fourier transform techniques

  • Adaptive digital filtering techniques FSK and MSK modulation modes

  • Statistical processing in adverse signal to noise ratio environments

  • Gaussian and Atmospheric Noise differences

  • Design and implementation experience

  • FPGA Operations (Timing, Digital Tuning DSP implementation)

  • Real-time operations

  • General Digital Signal Processing (DSP)

The following experience is desirable:

  • Experience implementing forward error correction (FEPriniC) or Error Detection and Correction (EDAC) codes

  • Very Low Frequency radio system experience and knowledge

  • Very Low Frequency communication architectural knowledge including waveforms, receivers, transmitters, antennas

  • Very Low Frequency methodologies including:

  • High voltage RF design techniques

  • Fixed site VLF transmit antenna matching networks

  • VLF propagation

  • VLF receiver performance parameters (sensitivity, linearity, dynamic range)

  • COMSEC for VLF modes

  • VLF antenna systems (mechanical and electrical) performance parameters

  • Responsibility for a successful (on schedule, within budget, technically compliant) low frequency or DSP based system integration and test effort

  • Application/device driver development experience using C/C++ Familiarity with multi-threaded applications

  • Experience with virtual control/monitor techniques and embedded controller techniques

  • Model based systems development experience

  • Master's Degree in applicable engineering or science field, and at least ten years of related experience
