Analyst II, Consulting– Downstream Energy Consulting

Job Summary:

The Analyst will be a key member of the IHS Markit Downstream Energy consulting team. The Analyst assists consultants with research and data analysis for use in proprietary studies as well as the compilation of project reports and presentations across a wide range of activities related to the crude oil and refined product value chains.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Discerns and solves basic problems defined by others

  2. Shows initiative and motivated to learn

  3. Generates quality work on assigned tasks

  4. Support consuliting and research activities by producing quick-turnaround analysis and research for site visits, consulting projects, and client presentations

  5. Maintain data bases to help ensure timely and accurate delivery of consulting projects

  6. Build databases that contribute to consulting and research reports and presentations by carefully combing through industry periodicals and external/internal data sources to create organized and user-friendly data bases and to support accurate and in-depth retainer research.

  7. Contribute to consulting projects by working under the direction of a consulting project leader, mining data, creating spreadsheets and graphics, and seeking out peer review of materials to support delivery of high-quality client-specific projects.

  8. Respond to basic, non-complex research-related questions from clients

  9. Ability to manipulate proprietary databases and Excel Workbooks for data collection and analysis

  10. Independent research via the library or Internet. Access information through internal or paid subscription/publications.

  11. Possess both analytical and writing skills.

  12. Audit and update proprietary models and tools such as the crude oil and refined product price forecast models and crude oil assay cutting tools.

  13. Construct and manipulate Excel workbooks for data analysis.

  14. Ability to translate raw data and concepts into graphical reports.

  15. Work with other analysts and consultants to produce comprehensive presentations and reports.

  16. Review data for accuracy and proofreading of written reports.

  17. Must be knowledgeable about IHS Markit resources/experts in order to reach project objectives and provide text/analysis for projects utilizing these resources.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • High degree of data manipulation

  • Must learn and understand crude oil and petroleum industry terminology across all value chains

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (strong VBA, experience with logical reference coding such as vlookup and index(match), file linking, pivot tables, database links)

  • Interact with clients (internal and external)

  • Storng Multi-tasking and prioritization skills a must

University degree (Bachelors or equivalent) in Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Geoscience or related field
