Duties / Responsibilities

The Aerodynamic and Aircraft Systems Software Manager is responsible for leading, mentoring, motivating, and training the Software Engineers within the Link Aerodynamic and Aircraft Systems Software Functional Excellence team as well as maintaining an active role as a Software Engineer within programs. The Software Manager’s responsibilities are anticipated to take approximately 25% of your time while the remaining 75% is spent working directly on programs and proposal activities. The Aerodynamic and Aircraft Systems Software Functional Excellence team is responsible for developing the following types of simulation software:

  • Fuel Systems

  • Environmental Control Systems

  • Hydraulic Systems

  • Electrical Systems

  • Automatic Flight Control Systems / Autopilot

  • Other Aircraft Systems – warning systems, traffic collision avoidance systems, voice recorders, oxygen systems, arresting hook, and pitot

  • Weight and balance

  • Drag

  • Engines

  • Flight Controls

  • Control Loading

  • Motion Systems

As the Software Manager you will be responsible for:

  • Enforcing the software development process

  • Defining team roles and responsibilities and ensuring expectations are clear

  • Establishing performance standards for the team you lead and evaluating their performance

  • Supporting engineers on your team in meeting their commitments

  • Compensating and rewarding exceptional performance

  • Interviewing, selecting and onboarding the best talent in the market

  • Providing career advice, direction and development plans to your team

As a Software Engineer you will be responsible for:

  • Creating and maintaining project and product line Aerodynamic and Aircraft Systems software documentation in order to support project documentation deliverables and follow-on development efforts across the product line

  • Deriving software requirements, designing, implementing, integrating, and testing Aerodynamic and Aircraft Systems software for real-time simulation applications that meet training requirements. Testing activity includes flight test matching, Qualification Test Guide (QTG) analysis and certification testing.

  • Creating new simulation models using established and new modeling techniques

  • Applying software engineering principles to complete assigned tasks and meet budget and schedule commitments

  • Participating in design / code reviews

  • Working independently or working in a team

  • Provide technical leadership to lower grade engineers

  • Reporting weekly status to the project and engineering leadership

  • Other tasks as required

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or other technical field or equivalent education and work experience

  • Must have software development experience

  • Must have Aerodynamic or Aircraft System engineering technical experience

  • Strong follow-up skills with attention to detail

  • Clear and concise communication in both written and verbal form

  • Assertive problem-solving, negotiations, and conflict-resolution skills

  • Ability to be diplomatic or firm when necessary in order to drive business forward or obtain results

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and tight deadlines with confidence and ease

  • Ability to prioritize and organize workload across multiple groups

  • Excellent computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, and Project

  • Familiarity with Rational ClearCase/ClearQuest or Atlassian and Perforce configuration management systems

  • Must have proven ability to build trust and inspire others

  • Ability to recruit top talent

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance

Additional Desired Qualifications and Experience

  • Prefer 3 years of leadership experience

  • Prefer 5 years of Aerodynamic or Aircraft System engineering technical experience

  • Prefer 10 years of software development experience

  • Experience working with FAA Level ‘D’ fidelity requirements
